It is used to transfer physical data files from one system to another (This is called Uploading and Downloading). Explained : You have created a web page (.html file) at home on your computer. You would now like to put this file in your account on Alpha1 so that the web server can use it when people are viewing your web pages. How would you accomplish this without doing a telnet to the system and re-typing in all of your data bit-by-bit? FTP. FTP allows you to send a file, or files, from one destination to another. Program Location (Windows) : All versions of Windows have FTP built into them. In some cases, MAC's do not come equipped with this program, and it must be acquired. On a Windows system, simply hit START then RUN and type in "ftp alpha1.net".
