This guide will walk you through the setup and instructions for configuring Outlook 97 email program.
I. INITIAL SETUP
- Double-click on the 'Outlook' icon on your desktop or System Icon Tray.
If there is no Outlook icon on the desktop, click on 'Start' |
'Programs' | 'Microsoft Outlook'.
- If this is your first time running Outlook 97, it will ask you where you would like to store your mailbox data. The default selection is a safe choice.
- On the pull-down menu, click on 'Tools'.
- Select 'Accounts'.
II. SETTING UP YOUR COMPANY_SHORT ACCOUNT
- Click on 'Properties'.
- Under 'Full Name', enter your actual full name, first and last.
- Under 'Email Address'enter your complete address, which should be along the lines of username@COMPANY_DOMAIN (or username@yourdomain.com).
- Under 'Internet Mail Server', enter COMPANY_DOMAIN (or yourdomain.com if you have domain hosting).
- Under 'Account Name', enter your username (loginname), which is the prefix to your email address.
- Click on the folder called 'Connection' and make sure Connect Using The Network" is checked.
- Click on 'Apply' and then 'Ok' to save these settings.
- You will now need to close and re-start Outlook 97 for these changes to take effect.
- Once Outlook is started up again, you can force a check for mail at any time by hitting F5 or by clicking on 'tools' and then 'Check For New Mail'.
III. MAIL SETTINGS
Remember : Like all other internet mail programs, this mail program will ERROR if it can not reach the COMPANY_SHORT mail system because you have not established your internet connection first (Dialed in, etc.)
- On the pull-down menu, click on 'Tools' and select 'Options'
- Please feel free to look through the other options, and make changes and selections, however unless your sure of your choices and the impact of them, we recommend you stick with the default settings until you become familiar with the program.
WARNING - Outlook has had many patches and bug fixes for virus and security type exploits over the years, and we recommend that you immediately go to Microsoft's Web Site and install the latest patches.
