This guide will walk you through the setup and instructions for configuring Outlook Express email program . This guide in particular covers the installation of Outlook 2000 , which comes with Microsoft Office 2000.
I. INITIAL SETUP
- Double-click on the 'Outlook' icon on your desktop or System Icon Tray.
If there is no Outlook Express icon on the desktop, click on 'Start' |
'Programs' | 'Outlook'.
- If this is your first time running Outlook Express, it will ask you where you would like to store your mailbox data. The default selection is a safe choice.
- On the pull-down menu, click on 'Tools'.
- Select 'Accounts'.
II. SETTING UP YOUR COMPANY_SHORT ACCOUNT
- You have opened a folder called 'Internet Accounts'.
Click on the tab called 'Mail'.
- The white box will show all current mailboxes configured; Delete any that are unnecessary or outdated.
- On the right side of the tab, click on 'ADD' and then 'Mail'.
- You will be prompted for a 'Display Name'. Put in your name, or your chosen nickname. Click 'Next'.
- In the next window, enter in your complete email address. (Example : username@COMPANY_DOMAIN). Click 'Next'.
- Your incoming mail server is a POP3 server. Both your INCOMING and OUTGOING mail servers have the same address of COMPANY_DOMAIN (Or your.domain.com). Click 'Next'.
- Enter in your 'Account name (username) and password.
- Make sure the box 'Remember password' is checked. Click 'Next'.
- Select the 3d choice, 'I will establish my internet connection manually'.
Click 'Next'.
- Click on 'Finish'.
- You will see your new setup in the white box. Click 'Close'.
III. MAIL SETTINGS / CHECKING MAIL
Remember : Like all other internet mail programs, this mail program will ERROR if it can not reach the COMPANY_SHORT mail system because you have not established your internet connection first (Dialed in, etc.)
- On the pull-down menu, click on 'Tools' and select 'Options'
- Click on the 'Mail Delivery' tab.
- Make sure Check for new messages every ### minutes is selected, and set for 5 minutes.
- If you are on a dial-up connection, you should consider looking at the other options on this screen.
- Click 'Ok' when finished.
